International Women’s Day

March 10, 2021

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women’s achievements or rally for women equality.

We thought it was important to acknowledge the wonderful women in Gin. It has been a male-dominated industry since forever, and there are some awesome women pioneering the way! Cheers to them!

We are also really chuffed to hear that our very own Co-Founder, Sarah Purches, was nominated by many as a leading female voice in Melbourne’s Hospitality scene and acknowledged as a finalist thanks to the incredible team at CAPI! You can see the post here.

Sarah says “Whilst I was flattered to be nominated, I didn’t expect to be a finalist and be invited to dine alongside some of the best women in the industry. I’m incredibly grateful to all of those who nominated me and to CAPI who is an incredible business that is truly supporting women and doing wonderful things.”

And Emma Evans, CEO Of CAPI, “People, Planet and Purpose. The coming together of values, intention and drive created our first International Women’s’ Day event at CAPI. Nominated by their peers 10 incredible women were selected to dine with us at CAPI HQ with the support of Free to Feed serving us CAPI cocktails and delicious food. When I looked around the room during the evening; truly grateful to be in the presence of everyone, I saw humility, talent, laughter and such graceful wisdom. Over the course of the evening, we got to know each other, share stories and connect the dots of how we can all support each other moving forward. We didn’t claim to solve all of the world’s problems and acknowledge there is still progress to be made but in community and conversation there can be inspiration and ideas. So who knows what is next! but what I do know is supporting each other, lifting each other up and staying true to who we are as individuals has power.”

We would like to also acknowledge these incredible women who were nominated as finalists:

Hannah Burke – Restaurant Manager, Cutler & Co

Emily Hazel – Founder and Owner of Serotonin Dealer

Sallie Jones – Co-Founder and Farmer at Gippsland Jersey

Nikki Keating – Anti-sexual Violence Activist, Campaigner, Marketing and Events Manager at Welcome to Brunswick
